Scope

Use of the “tap and prac” app is governed by Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“EULA”). The app is provided by Simon Harrer (see imprint).

These terms supplement the license agreement for the optional teacher access feature. They apply to students who turn it on and to teachers who use it. In case of conflict, these terms prevail for teacher access.

What teacher access is

With teacher access, a student can allow a teacher to add pieces, notes, messages, photos and handwritten notes in the teacher’s own app. The app creates an access code; the student chooses a name and password and passes them on to the teacher.

The teacher cannot see the student’s practice times, history or statistics. Which data is stored is described in the privacy policy.

Rules for teachers

Before adding their first student, teachers agree to these rules in the app:

  • I use teacher access exclusively for instrumental lessons with my students.
  • My notes, messages, photos and handwritten notes are objective and respectful. I do not share offensive, discriminatory, sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate content or advertising.
  • I do not use the access to make contact outside of lessons and do not ask for personal data that is not needed for lessons.
  • I only use the access code and password as long as my student wants me to, and I do not pass them on.
  • I only share content for which I hold the necessary rights – especially copyrighted sheet music.
  • I am responsible for my content.

Photos and handwritten notes

  • Before sharing the first photo or note on staves, teachers additionally agree to the rules for photos and notes.
  • Only teaching material may be shared, e.g. sheet-music excerpts, musical examples or fingering charts. Photos of people are not allowed.
  • Photos and notes are checked automatically on the device before sharing and before they are shown. Photos showing people or possibly inappropriate content are rejected or hidden. No automatic check is perfect – it does not replace the teacher’s responsibility.
  • Photos are deleted automatically 3 weeks after they were added. Handwritten notes remain until the teacher removes them or the access ends.

Rules for students

  • When turning on teacher access, you confirm these terms.
  • If you are under 16, use teacher access only with your parents’ consent.
  • Only give the access code and password to your own teacher.
  • Your own notes on pieces that your teacher can see are objective and respectful, too.

Report, hide, end

  • You can report a teacher’s photos, notes on staves, text notes and messages in the app – press and hold and choose “Report”. The report is sent by email to tapandprac@icloud.com.
  • You can also permanently hide photos and notes on staves.
  • You can end teacher access at any time in Settings. The teacher can then no longer sign in.
  • I review reports promptly. In case of violations I may delete content and block access; where there are indications of criminal offences, I reserve the right to inform the competent authorities.

Availability

Teacher access uses Apple’s iCloud. Both devices must be signed in to iCloud with an Apple Account and connected to the internet. I strive for reliable operation but cannot guarantee constant availability. The feature may be developed further, restricted or discontinued; data on your device is not affected.

Liability

Teachers and students are responsible for the content they share via teacher access. Otherwise the license agreement (EULA) applies. Statutory liability for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health remains unaffected.

Changes

If these terms change significantly, the app will ask for your consent again. The version published here applies. In case of doubt, the German version prevails.
